Preserve It . . . Canning Corner - Bottled Stew!

Stew is a great meal to have on hand.
It's filling and it hits the spot on a cold day.
With a few extra ingredients and a slightly larger pot,
you can make dinner time stress-free and
your family will think you've been cooking all day!
Bottled Stew can be made two different ways:
The first is to bottle the stew meat and add it to your
fresh ingredients in a crockpot.
(The picture above is of the bottled stew meat and fresh veggies.)
The second is to bottle your left over stew.
(Just make sure your recipe doesn't include flour.)
Here's the Recipe:
You can find the recipe for bottled stew meat in the:
Preserve It . . . Canning Corner Section.
Isn't Bottled Meat AWESOME!

Family Activity - Game Night!

Time to pull those games off the shelf for a
Family Game Night!
One of our family's favorite games is called,
 BLINK!
It only takes between 2 and 3 minutes
to play each game and is fun for all ages.
We have a few decks so that the whole family can play
at the same time, and then we just rotate teams after each game.
Sooo FuN!
Building a STRONG FAMILY through WORK and PLAY,
really is one of the best ways to prepare for any emergency!
One more thing . . .
Don't Forget the Treats!
Super Soft Caramel Popcorn should do the trick.
Here's the Recipe:
Have a GREAT NIGHT!

Ark Prep 101 - Part 4: A 3 Month Supply for YOUR Family!

A 3-Month Supply for YOUR Family
will be different from your NEIGHBORS 3-Month Supply.
That's because the meals your family is eating on a
daily basis are different from the meals your neighbor's
family is eating on a daily basis!
Your 3-Month Supply will include the ingredients you are
using in your daily meals.
To Get Started on YOUR 3-Month Supply:
Make a list of the meals you are eating during the week.
(Just focus on one week at a time . . . It makes things a lot easier!)
Make a list of all of the items you can store on a shelf,
in your freezer, or in your refrigerator.
We have created a page for you to list your supply items
in three different areas:
Shelf Stable, Freezer, and Fresh.
Here it is:
Make 7 copies of this page, using 1 page for each different
Menu Item.
For Example:
Menu Item:  Shepherd's Pie
Shelf-Stable Ingredients:
Instant Potatoes
Canned Corn
Canned Green Beans
Ketchup
Mustard
Seasoning
Freezer Ingredients:
Ground Beef
Fresh Ingredients:
Cheese
This is a great option for my 3-Month Supply
because most of the ingredients are
shelf-stable and easy to store.
As you make a list of your Daily Menu Items,
Don't forget to add the Corn Dogs, Pizza, and other
Freezer Meals you have on hand.
The freezer IS an important part of your
3-Month Supply.
A 3-Month Supply Is More Than Just Food!
Toilet Paper, Diapers, Formula, Shampoo, Toothpaste . . . etc.
Think of the items you use everyday -
They are going to become even more important
if you can't get to a store!
I don't know about you, but if I had to choose between the
pillow-soft quilted Northern and a leaf . . . I'm choosing
the Northern!
Your 3-Month Supply is meant to make life easier for you.
Not having to run to the store everytime you need something
will save you time and money.
Make a list of the items you use everyday.
We made a form for that too.
Here it is:
Now all you have to do is . . . buy enough
 for a second meal,
or buy two things of deoderant instead of one.
Try not to use the extra items
until you can replace them.
Before you know it . . . You will have a
well-stocked 3-Month Supply!
Happy Shopping!

Family Activity - Family Night at the Movies!

Sooooo Sorry . . .
This post was actually meant for yesterday
and the BBQ Sauce was supposed to be today's post.
Whoops!
I had a fever and obviously no clue what day it was.
Our Family Activity Idea for Today is:
Family Movie Night at HOME - Movie Theater Style!
If you're a fan of movie theater popcorn but not sure you can find
a movie the whole family can watch,
We have an IDEA:
Buy the Popcorn . . . but Rent the Movie!
The Kaysville Theater popcorn is the best price and they
have no problem with you just stopping by for a bag or two.
To make the night even more FUN
and make the kids really wonder what's up . . .
Send dad and the kids out to the car and tell them
they're in for a Big Surprise.
Dad - Get them locked, loaded and ready to go.
Mom, you can hurry and set up the
Homemade Concession Stand
 Complete With:
Movie Theater Tickets
Popcorn
Treats and Drinks
We made Tickets and Concession Signs for YOU:

As soon as the concession stand set-up is complete,
head to the car and take a drive around the block.
Pull back into the driveway and announce, "We're Here!"
(That'll get 'em!)
They may look a little confussed at first, but once they see the
Homemade Consession Stand
that's all it will take
YOU are NOW the most POPULAR PARENTS around!
Way to go guys!
Snuggle in for a movie and enjoy the night with your Family.
This is a great opportunity for
Grandma's and Grandpa's as well!

This Water Barrel Storage Idea is found on:
Notice the wooden dowl that has been put in
front of the jars . . . Sooo Smart!

Make sure you label sealed totes and boxes.
Sooo Important!

An Extra Closet!
"Prepared LDS Family" Blog
Food can be stored in the boxes they came in.
Just store the newest food on the bottom,
so that family members rotate from the top!
I love the extra piece of wood they put across the shelves
to keep things from falling!
Make sure you measure your space BEFORE you
purchase your shelves.
Note the two different sizes.
Pantry Food Storage.
Smaller Rolling Can Shelves are a great option!
Don't forget the space under your stairs!
Space can be found ANYWHERE!
Remember to rotate the food you store
and to store the foods your family will eat.
Hope this helps!
